If you are not sure about the size of the bin you require, take some photos and email them to us and we can try to determine a size or even suggest a larger size.
Other things to consider is where the bin will be placed and the access (driveway width).
Please Note - Our Marell Bin truck is approx.2.8 metres wide (Mirror to Mirror) with the tray being 2.2 metres wide. Unloading of bin is via the rear of the truck so you need to ensure a clear open space.
Size of bin required can vary significantly for reasons such as, bulky materials or the way the scrap is packed in etc. It is important to consider length of materials such as pipe work, corrugated iron sheets etc. as it can become an unsafe load to transport. Our drivers reserve the right to refuse picking up a bin that they deem unsafe or that could cause potential harm in transporting back to base.
Unless 48 hours’ notice can be given, and the time is approved by the Operations Manager, we cannot guarantee delivery times. We often have 6 or more skips to drop or pick up on any given day so it is paramount that scheduling of this occurs in an orderly defined manner to avoid traffic congestion, parked vehicles, noise and many other factors. If you know your project or clean-up is commencing early in the morning, then please arrange for the skip to be delivered prior.
We have an extensive range of bins, cages, drums from 1m³ through to 8m³. We also have 20ft “open top” shipping containers available. Some of our larger bins have a drop-down door at one end to allow for easier loading of heavy materials.
Same day delivery can often be problematic if the days run has already commenced however if we can fit it in we certainly will. Note, you will need to confirm this verbally with our Operations Manager.
You as the customer are in possession of the skip and are responsible for what goes in it. Therefore, you will be responsible for any costs arising if anyone puts something in the skip that is not allowed or overloads it.
When you hire a skip bin, you specify the collection date and it will be collected on that date unless you subsequently request otherwise. If a driver finds a skip, substantially empty, he will make attempts to have the customer contacted, but ultimately will have the discretion to remove the skip if he sees fit. If the driver is turned away on arrival, the customer will be responsible for payment of any call out fee incurred for the additional trip.
Our skip bins must be placed within your own property subject to space requirements, but if you need to place the skip bin on a road or nature strip, different rules apply. (See council permits question below).
If the skip cannot be delivered for any reason, other than the fault of S & M Metals, or a sub-contractor of ours, the customer will be liable for any call out fees incurred and will be entitled to either a refund of the balance, or for the balance to be credited towards the hire of a different skip.
EFTPOS payments can be made but you must email a copy of the EFTPOS transfer receipt prior to delivery of the skip. (No exceptions)
COD (Cash on Delivery) Please advise at time of booking that you will be onsite to make payment. Placement of bin will not occur prior to payment under any circumstances
Cheque payments can be received ONLY in certain cases by prior arrangement
Accounts can be set up for approved applicants subject to satisfaction of our standard credit check and agreement to our terms of trade
Please avoid hassles and costs by ensuring the skips are never loaded above the rim. In no circumstances can a skip be filled above the rim. It is illegal to transport an overfilled skip and drivers are subject to heavy fines and demerit points if caught doing so. If a skip is overfilled you will be given the option to hire an additional skip, or to remove the excess material.
All labour costs incurred by you will be your own responsibility.
If there is nobody on site when the collection occurs, the driver will, at his own discretion attempt to remove the excess material and place it in a pile as close as possible to the skip’s location.
In cases where the excess is not removed and the skip remains for extended periods, the customer may become liable for additional charges including rental, labour costs and additional transport costs if it becomes necessary for us to unload the excess.
Municipalities have different rules about placing skips in the public area. Some prohibit placement on either the road or nature strip, others require that either the customer or the skip company obtain a permit at a cost, some maintain a list of approved skip companies who may place a skip on public land. If you need to put the skip outside your property, please call to discuss with us prior to ordering.
